Things change...

...and I change with them!

Since my last post here, these things happened:

  • I moved.

  • I got married. Just a simple quick wedding in Florida.

  • I moved again. This time to Illinois, to a temporary apartment.

  • I started working at Wolfram Research.

  • I moved. Once again. To the house where I live now.

  • I got a promotion.

  • I got married again. Just a religious ceremony and a big party this time.

  • I adopted the cutest little puppy.

Quite a bit, and it explains why I haven't been writing much...

anyway, just giving an update.

Vote for Ped!

I'm very proud today.

My very good friend and long time partner/contributor Pedro Doria's blog has recently been nominated for the Deutche Welle's Best of the Blogs awards. This nomination has not come too early. Pedro's blog is incisive, well-informed and always extremely relevant. Unfortunately, his blog is not published in English as well, because his taps into the Brazilian political points of view offer unmatched comprehension of the world's perception of America.

For Brazilians, it offers a view from American politics that is tempered by the knowledge of someone that built his persona growing up in California while keeping his feet in Rio de Janeiro. Yes, he has the tendency to favor liberal views, but what else would you expect from a Carioca who lived in the Bay Area? Regardless of his view, however, Pedro makes sure to do what American journalism seems to have forgotten. He talks about the other side, showing the two sides of each story. That alone would make it worth reading. The unusual, half-forgotten but correct sources and the extremely well-developed prose are the other main reasons to vote for him.

So go ahead, cast your vote for Ped! Here's the link:

I am Bill! Kill me!

BILL! (Snake Charmer)

You're Bill! I love you! Anyways, you're skilled in the art of manipulation. You're very strong, talented, powerful, and witty. You don't seem to have any real sense of morality, and you only let your kindness show around a select handful of people (mostly Kiddo and B.B). You do have some regret for the horrible things you've done, but won't let it interefere with your life. You respect your opponents, and you generally believe in fair game.

My Pirate Name!

My pirate name is:

Iron Jack Bonney

A pirate's life isn't easy; it takes a tough person. That's okay with you, though, since you a tough person. You can be a little bit unpredictable, but a pirate's life is far from full of certainties, so that fits in pretty well. Arr!

Get your own pirate name from fidius.org.

This is too precious not to publish...

I know I haven't written in a while. Lots of interesting things going on. Too much living to do to write about living right this minute.

However, I just thought this was way too precious...

So, apparently, chimpanzees are so close to women that the female's sexual frustration with insensitive males also leads to addictive and desperate behaviour in the animal kindom... Check this out:

And... we have bionic crabs!

This article is one of the reasons I get so pissed off that Brazil invests so little in technology:

A joke to the senators, about the senators, for the people

Ah, the wonders of the Internet...

I was trying to find some info in a social psychology study about the way our brains perceive the future and after going through a few websites, I found this website where a guy faked a letter to Senators in the US. The letter looks like a 10 year old boy's handwriting, asking the Senators to tell their favorite joke:

Do politicians have a sense of humor?.

The first thing that amazed me was the quantity of answers. Then, the quantity of answers that seemed to have been actually responded by the Senators themselves, not just by an assistant.

Reading some of these answers, I felt impressed with the genuine spirit of wanting to better the country that the Senators in this country wear like a carapace.

And then it scared me to think about what would happen if someone did the same in Brazil... The Senators certainly have a sense of humor, but I don't see any of them treating the letter with the seriousness and inspirational tone that some of these answer letters had. The Senators here understand their role of leaders and inspiration for a generation, even if not at all times. I'm sad to state that I don't see the same back in my country.
